Election lottery?

I'm away at the in-laws for the weekend. Blogging will be light until Monday.

My in-laws seem intrigued by the idea of encouraging people to vote by running a lottery. Everyone who votes gets a free chance at winning a big prize, say $1 million.

My reaction: Do we really want people who are only voting for the money (or the chance at money) to be electing our officials? I for one do not.
